Speaker Bios

Daniel D. Mennenoh, American Land Title Association
Daniel D. Mennenoh  began his career in the title insurance industry in 1982 when he joined Galena, IL-based H.B. Wilkinson Tide  Co., a privately held company established in 1883. He was named president of the company in 1996 upon the retirement of his father, John Mennenoh.

In addition to being a member of ALTA's Board of Governors, Mennenoh serves as chair of the Abstracters and Title Insurance Agents Section Executive Committee and is chair of the Abstracters and Title Insurance Agents Section Research Subcommittee.

Mennenoh formerly served as director of the Illinois Land Tide Association (ILTA) and served as its president from 1998-1999. Participating on numerous committees for ILTA, he currently serves as chair of the association's Political Action Committee and is a member of the Communications Committee.

In 2006, Mennenoh was elected to the Board of Directors for the Title Industry Assurance Company
(TIAC), a professional liability insurance company for the title industry. He currently serves as TIAC's president.

Active in the local community, Mennenoh has been a member of Rotary International for 25 years and a member of the Galena Rotary Club for 20 years. He served for 12 years on the Board of Directors of the Galena-Stauss  Hospital  and Healthcare  Center, now known as the Midwest Medical Center. He also served as chairman of the board for six years, during which time a new, state-of-the-art replacement hospital was constructed.

Mennenoh's  wife, Merry, is the accounting and human resource manager for H.B. Wilkinson Title Co. They have lived in the historic district of Galena, IL., for the past 20 years and have two children. In 2008, their daughter, Devon Irby, started working for the company, becoming the third generation of the family in the title business.

Marx David Sterbcow is nationally recognized as one of the leading legal authorities in the real estate settlement services industry.  Marx?s practice focuses on RESPA, UDAAP, TILA, Fair Lending Act, FTC, and other administrative and regulatory compliance issues.  He advises banking, mortgage lending, title insurance, and real estate brokerage companies across the nation regarding affiliated business arrangements, third party vendor management compliance audits, regulatory enforcement issues, social media oversight, mergers & acquisitions, marketing agreement compliance, lead generation programs, and promotional advertising program guidance. 
Marx graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, with a bachelor?s degree in history and political science, Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington, with a J.D., and the John Marshall School of Law?s Center for Real Estate Law in Chicago, Illinois, with an LLM.  He has been recognized by Super Lawyers, New Orleans Magazine?s Top Lawyers, Louisiana Life Magazine?s Top Lawyers, New Orleans City Business Top 50 Leaders in Law, Top 40 Under 40 in the Real Estate Industry by October Research Corporation, and Southern Woman Magazine named him as one of the Top 20 People to Watch.  The Title Report designated Mr. Sterbcow as a Trend Setters for 2014.
Marx represented the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) in its efforts to challenge the Federal Reserve Board on its implementation of the Regulation Z Loan Officer Compensation Rule. He serves on the Regulatory & Policy Committee for the Real Estate Services Providers Council (RESPRO), the Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and is on the American Land Title Associations (ALTA) RESPA/TILA Mortgage Disclosure Task Force.  Mr. Sterbcow is Vice President of the Louisiana Land Title Association (LLTA), Vice President of the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Title Attorneys (NOMATA), and is a member of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) and Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO). He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.

Patrick Hempen, SoftPro


Patrick Hempen is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SoftPro. Prior to joining SoftPro in 2013, Patrick was the Agency Area Manager with Fidelity National Title Group for the territories of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois.

Before he entered the title industry, he worked for a Fortune 500 lending institution where his functions included secondary market analysis and sales, recruiting and managing a sales staff, and underwriting consumer loans.

Ruth Battle, Central Bank

Ruth E. Battle is currently the Chief Mortgage Underwriter for Central Bancompany.  In her capacity, Ruth manages the underwriting function across the network of 13 affiliate banks and their branch locations.  Before coming to Central Bank in 2014, Ruth spent 21 years at a St. Louis based independent mortgage banker performing a variety of functions including, originations, processing, underwriting, compliance, IT support and management.

She has also served the Mortgage Bankers Association of St. Louis for the past 20 years and was the 2006 President. Currently, Ruth serves on the Mortgage Bankers Association of Missouri. She is the Vice-Chair.  As a 2007 Mortgage Banker Association of America Future Leader, industry involvement has always been a key to her survival and success.  Ruth is a member of the St. Louis Association of Realtors and is involved with the Affiliate Council and the Contract and Forms Committee.

This self-proclaimed "mortgage geek? resides in Olivette Missouri with her husband Walt and 12 year old son Anthony. 

Kate Steineman, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage

Kate Steineman is Vice President, Business Liaison Manager within the Strategic Engagement Management team at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.  Her current teams have responsibilities within the title and settlement space, from owning the relationships with title underwriter partners; to managing Settlement Agent performance and managing the internal database of agents who close Wells Fargo retail transactions.  She has been with Wells Fargo for 18 years and has held positions in Sales, Sales Management, Vendor Management, Implementation, Risk and her current role.

Amy Prater, Bank Midwest
