LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITIES

The Missouri General Assembly meets from the first Wednesday following the first Monday of January (January 7, in 2009) and ceases legislative activity at 6:00 p.m. on the Friday after the second Monday in May (May 15, in 2009). This session's important dates are:

December 1, 2008 Pre-filing of bills commences

January 7, 2009 First day of session

January 12, 2009  Inauguration of the Governor and Executive Officials

March 12-23, 2009 Legislative Spring Break and Easter Break

May 8, 2009 Constitutional deadline for adoption of budget

May 15, 2009 Regular session concludes

August 28, 2009 Effective date for non-emergency bills

Generally, until mid-April, the General Assembly meets from Monday afternoon until Thursday afternoon, with most committee hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday. After mid-April, Friday sessions may occur and in May, Friday sessions are almost certain to occur.

Senate Leadership Positions: President Pro Tem-Charlie Shields; Majority Floor Leader-Kevin Engler; Minority Floor Leader-Victor Callahan. 

House Leadership Positions: Speaker of the House-Ron Richard; Speaker Pro Tem-Bryan Pratt; Majority Floor Leader-Steve Tilley; Minority Floor Leader-Paul LeVota.
